The prettiest boy I've ever seen was sitting two rows back in my driver's ed class tonight. And by pretty, I don't mean hot or cute or even attractive as such, but pretty the way girls are pretty. It took hearing him speak for me to be able to confirm his gender as male, and even then every time I saw his face from a certain angle my brain kept going, "But, but, but - girl!"

It was a weird cognitive dissonance thing that was very interesting in the sense that it bothered me so much that I couldn't tell which he was. It's always a kick in the teeth to be reminded of how important it is for us to categorize the people around us, to make sure they're safe and recognizable. I love gender-bending in stories because those stories knock me sprawling out of my comfort zone and force me to reassess the way I define both myself and others.

Well, that and the fact that androgyny is just cool.

guys who look like girls = very hot.

Girls who look like guys = not as hot.

I don't know, anyone whose gender it takes me awhile to figure out is automatically interesting-looking, and often hot too. Manly looking girls, maybe not, but definitely girls with short hair or tomboys. That's just my personal opinion, though...

Androgyny like tomboys = hot, but what I meant was manly looking girls. Like huge broad shoulders and just manly.
