[livejournal.com profile] brighidestone wrote this in her journal just before September 11 of this year. Just wanted to share it.

"...This weekend? Put it down, as least for a little while. Put down the anger and the grief and the rage and the analysis and the blame and the rhetoric. Instead? Do something you love. Something that makes you passionate and joyous and more real than anything else. Do something that makes you feel whole, and complete within yourself. Do something that makes life worthwhile.

Maybe you make love. Maybe you go for a hike, or take pictures, or take your kids to the park or teach your nephew to ride a bike. Maybe you buy the little old lady in the apartment next to you flowers. Maybe you see a movie you keep on not getting to. Maybe you call your mom and tell her that you love her, or tell your sister one childhood memory you treasure. Maybe you try a new food you've never tried before. Maybe you climb a cliff or jump out of a plane or go belly dancing or have dinner with friends and drink wine and play charades. Maybe you go volunteer somewhere where you're needed. Maybe you give blood. Maybe you send ten people goofy postcards that just say, "I love you!".

Just ... for a few minutes, or a few hours, or even for the whole weekend, live. Because this? Is perhaps the best way to remember those who died four years ago, and those who've died since ... to live your life as best you can, with joy and intensity and love. We are not made to live in a house of mourning, and we cannot heal the suffering of others if we are broken ourselves. We can never defeat terrorism if we live constantly in one moment of horror and despair. We cannot make the world or our governments or even ourselves the best they can be if we do not live it, do it, be it.

Let what you do this weekend be a testament to human resiliance, beauty, joy, passion, serenity, spirit. Let it be a blessing to your house, to your land, to your world.

Stay in bed and eat sticky buns and drink tea and watch Nemo with your kids and love this moment and in doing so defeat terrorism, defeat despair, defeat death itself because in that moment you live, and nothing can take that one moment away from you, or whomever you share it with.

That's what I'm asking. It's your choice, of course. But I hope you think about it. I hope you find some measure of joy this weekend, and feel it like a prayer in your heart.

Brighid September 9th, 2005"

Aw. I'm glad! Try to keep what remains of your sanity until midterms are over, and remember that this too shall pass. :)
