As for Sheppard's name... *grins* Okay, so there's a short answer and a long answer. The short answer is that I hadn't decided on her first name when I wrote Storm Damage, and as this story was all from Ford's POV she was always Sheppard and the Major. But her name is actually Jen Sheppard, short for Jennifer, and will be written as such when I write more stories in this 'verse.
The long answer is that I have this whole backstory in my head where Jen Sheppard's mother really wanted to name her daughter something pretty and memorable, and argued with Sheppard's father until he gave in. (He wanted to name her Anne, after his mother.) So the name on her birth certificate is actually Jennalee Anne Sheppard, but by the time she was twelve everyone was calling her Jen, except her mother. Then her mother took off when she was about fourteen, and Jen didn't hear from her for years. And as soon as she turned eighteen she had her named officially changed to Jennifer, because Jennalee sounded like the name of a country singer or a stripper, and she wanted people to take her seriously, and it's not like anyone called her that anymore anyway.
And that's probably much more information than you cared to know. :)
