Ooh, you're right, I forgot about the sparring/knife at the throat scene from Duet; yeah, I'm guessing that it would taken longer for everyone to trust Ronon enough to invite him to join their team, although I bet Sheppard would be concerned that if they waited too long Ronon would just leave Atlantis altogether, and they'd lose a fighter against the Wraith. Maybe they'd send him out with teams that had more Marines on them first or something.
