Happy Thing for today: the terrific fic that I got in the [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa exchange!

The True Story of When They Went A-Wandering

In which the team goes on a road trip, and there is bickering and shin-kicking and drunkenness, a wedding and a brothel, bad hair, bad clothes, and a couple of arrests. It rocks my socks, so go read it! *g*
These might not end up being for eight consecutive days, but I'll try. Also, as a warning, I'm both really tired and on a sugar high at the moment, so this post might not be very coherent.

Happy Thing: Even though I've never watched Boston Legal before in my life until last night, it makes me happy that the show's two male and heterosexual leads got married in the series finale. None of my OTPs have ever gotten married in the series finale, but it pleases me to think of all the slash fangirls out there who must be ecstatic about this development, even if their show's over.

In that vein, apparently on SGA slight spoiler )

Thus ends my rambling post.

Here's the fic I wrote for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic Team Challenge.

Title: Sings the Tune Without the Words
Rating: PG
Characters: Gen, Teyla
Spoilers: AU ending for Inquisition, 5x13
Words: 3155
Summary: On the third day, an emissary from the Coalition arrives in Atlantis and says, there has been a trial. And the accused have been found guilty, and they have been punished.
Author's notes: This is possibly the first chapter of a much longer story that I might someday write, dealing with the consequences of Inquisition if the team had actually been sentenced and punished. The punishment here isn't quite the same as the one that was described in the episode, however. Also, I might never actually write the rest of this story, so don't read if that would really bother you. The title is from an Emily Dickinson poem.

Wow, does anyone else feel like Canada was feeling all sulky after the US election media frenzy kinda drowned out our election, and this is the politicians' way of going, "See! OUR POLITICS ARE EXCITING TOO!!!1!"

No? Just me? Okay. Anyway, I'm sure that whole economic recession thing can just, you know, wait six weeks. No harm done!

*does a happy dance over the US election news*

Thank you, thank you, thank you America, from one very relieved Canadian. Man, I wish I didn't have so much freaking homework to do, because I really want to go out and celebrate tomorrow night. Whatever, celebrating can wait until Friday. I guess.

Whoops, forgot to post about the fic I wrote for the [livejournal.com profile] sgahcchallenges Fall 2008 Fic Exchange.

Title: Back to Business as Usual
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 2180
Characters: Teyla, John
Spoilers: For Season Five up to The Daedalus Variations
Writing for: [livejournal.com profile] jadesfire2808
Assignment: Anything with John or Rodney doing the comforting, rather than the hurting, and exercising their usual wonderful interpersonal skills [/irony]
Summary: And now she appeared to be in a hole.

Back to Business as Usual
I got caught in a downpour yesterday without a raincoat or an umbrella. Sadly, I couldn't take shelter because I was on a mission to hit two libraries and finish up an assignment before my 6:30 class. Even more fun, the bottom of one of my sneakers started leaking like crazy, so by the time I was heading back to the FIS building my foot was actually squelching with each step. Blargh.

My day was slightly improved by the tasty pumpkin nut loaf I got at Starbucks, and that in my information tech class, my teacher was explaining to us how the Internet works. He kept saying, "The Internet-" and then pausing to take a breath, and every single time my brain chimed in happily, -is for porn!

I wrote a short entry for the IJ Porn Battle, which was fun. I'm trying to beef up my porn writing skills for the unfinished OT4 fic that is languishing away on my computer, along with a ridiculous number of other half-written fics. Unfortunately, it looks as though my new program at U of T is going to be keeping me busy for a while, so my WIPs will have to wait a little longer.

The prompt was John/Ronon/Rodney/Teyla, adornment, and it's here.

I also posted a fic for the sga_flashfic Comfort Challenge:

Title: And Let Us Love
Pairing: Mehra/Porter
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Whispers 5x07
Word Count: 1,383
Summary: “So. You all done flirting with Doctor Xerox?”
A/N: The title of the story comes from the first line of Catullus's Poem 5.

I recently finished reading The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf, which was a pretty fascinating read. Although I have some issues with the book, its overwhelming focus on middle-class white women being one of them, it make me rethink some of my preconceptions about the connections between women, our issues with our bodies, and the economic institutions that can only gain through perpetuating those issues.

Two of my favourite quotes:

"The threat of sexual danger makes the [adolescent] girl's body a landscape on which she must project the outer world that now closes in. [...]Where her male peers go On the Road, she and the golden shackle of her "beauty" have to turn off of it. [...]Anorexia, bulemia and exercise fixations work off and numb the frustration of the claustrophobia that accompanies the girl's grieving realization that the wide world she had imagined, and just inherited, is shut down to her by the threat of sexual violence.

What if she doesn't worry about her body and eats enough for all the growing she has to do? She might rip her stockings and slam-dance on a forged ID to the Pogues, and walk home bare-foot, holding her shoes, alone at dawn; she might baby-sit in a battered-women's shelter one night a month; she might skateboard down Lombard Street with its seven hairpin turns, or fall in love with her best friend and do something about it, or lose herself for hours gazing into test tubes with her hair a mess, or sit down when the Pledge of Allegiance says stand, or hop a freight train, or take lovers without telling her last name, or run away to sea. She might revel in all the freedoms that seem so trivial to those who could take them for granted; she might dream seriously the dreams that seem so obvious to those who grew up with them readily available.

[...]But if she is not careful she will end up: raped, pregnant, impossible to control, or merely what is now called fat. The teenage girl knows this. Everyone is telling her to be careful. She learns that making her body into her landscape to tame is preferable to any kind of wildness."

"When a modern woman is blessed with a body that can move, run, dance, play, and bring her to orgasm; with breasts free of cancer, a healthy uterus, a life twice as long as that of the average Victorian woman, long enough to let her express her character on her face; with enough to eat and a metabolism that protects her by laying down flesh where and when she needs it; now that hers is the gift of health and well-being beyond that which any generation of women could have hoped for before - the Age of Surgery undoes her immense good fortune. It breaks down into defective components the gift of her sentient, vital body and the individuality of her face, teaching her to experience her lifelong blessing as a lifelong curse."

Title: Five Times Meredith McKay Came Out
Pairing: Mostly gen, minor McKay/OC, McKay/Brown. Genderswap AU.
Rating: PG
Words: 4134
Summary: You can't change who you are.
Author's Note: Short version - this story takes place in an AU where McKay and Sheppard have always been women. Longer version - this is basically a slashy sidebar to my Storm Damage AU. So, it's a slash AU of a genderswap AU. Yes. I know.

I’ve been following the discussions about colonialism in SGA, specifically, the comparison between the Earth people on Atlantis and the British in India that was being talked about in [livejournal.com profile] horridporrid’s post here. This isn't so much about the direct comparison between the Atlanteans and the British, but just a thought that occurred to me as I was reading the replies to the post.

There's this quote from a poem by Neil Gaiman that I can't get out of my head. I know there's a story about Rodney in it somewhere, about Rodney and Jeannie and maybe John too, and the difference between how Rodney sees them and who they really are, but I just can't pull it out of my head. So here's the quote, just in case anyone else can yank that story out of its hiding place.

Do not be jealous of your sister.

Know that diamonds and roses

are as uncomfortable when they tumble from

one's lips as toads and frogs:

colder, too, and sharper, and they cut.

I wrote a fic for the SGA Genficathon! Um, kind of a while ago. Anyway:

Title: Scenes from the (15th) Worst Mission Ever
Author: ceitie
Prompt: Weather or Elements
Word Count: 3303
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Minor for Outcast, general season 4 spoilers
Summary: “I must agree with John,” Teyla said. “In fact, I can think of at least two dozen missions that are objectively much worse than this one.”

Here's the fic I wrote for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic Not Dead Yet challenge.

Title: Past Prologue
Author: Ceitie
Characters: Gen AU. John, Radek.
Rating: PG-13 for language and horror.
Spoilers: Outcast
Words: 1,710
Summary: “No,” Radek answered, sighing. “Atlantis, Ontario, actually. You lived there for two years when you were a child. Do you remember?”
Author's Notes: My title is stolen from Shakespeare, and the plot of this AU is obviously stolen from a rather famous novel by Stephen King. The thought of rewriting the entire story as an AU makes me quail though, so this is just the beginning of that hypothetical AU. Which I'm not writing. Oh, and Stargate: Atlantis doesn't belong to me either.

Title: Definitely Not Arbour Day
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ceitie
Pairing: John/Rodney/Ronon/Teyla
Rating: NC-17
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] rysler
Summary: “Oh, are they kidding? This is their orgy room?”
Author’s note: So these characters and this universe are definitely not mine. The title comes from a quote from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Definitely Not Arbour Day
Title: Every Farthing of the Cost
Author: Ceitie
Category: Genderswitch AU, femslash
Pairing: Emmagan/McKay/Sheppard, gen/preslash
Rating: PG-13, for language
Words: 1,450
Spoilers: Reunion, Adrift/Lifeline
Summary: Missing scene from Reunion. Sheppard shrugged again, her mouth twisting. “We still need a new team member.”
A/N: This was written for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_genderfuck Femslashed Challenge, and takes place in the same genderswitch universe as Storm Damage and Five Times Aiden Ford (Almost) Wished He Was on a Different Team, where Sheppard and McKay have always been women. The title is from W.H. Auden's poem, Lullaby.

So, in case no one's mentioned it, drinking is bad, mmkay? I rediscovered this fact a couple of weeks ago. Because drinking causes memory loss, which leads to embarrassing revelations the morning after which may include having kissed two different people. On the same night. *facepalm*

Moving on to slightly more memorable kisses, I posted two ficlets to the [livejournal.com profile] mcsmooch community: Courage and its sequel Dreamcatcher.

Four things:

1)I've finally gotten my G2 license, which is awesome. I was stunned that I passed the test considering that my test was basically a comedy of errors.

Instructor, standing behind the car: Okay, so turn the car on and press the brakes and the signals so I can make sure your lights work.
Me: *accidentally hits the gas instead* Whoops. Maybe he didn't notice?
Five minutes later
Instructor: Do a three point turn.
Me: *reverses car into the curb, hides wince* Oh, dear. Maybe he's fallen asleep? In the five minutes we've been driving?
Five minutes later
Instructor: Back into that parking space, between those two large cars.
Me: *panics, tries to back in only to fail while also blocking traffic, gets the damn thing parked on the second try, ignores the fact that it's completely crooked* Oh for fuck's sake. I wonder how he feels about bribes.
Instructor: So, you passed.
Me: *blinks* ...Seriously? Wow, this explains a lot about the drivers in this city.

2)My SGA fanvid has been nominated in the Stargate Fan Awards, so yay! And thank you to whoever nominated me!

3)Somehow, [livejournal.com profile] mistful makes everything about Harry Potter about ten gazillion times better. Case in point: The Deathly Hallows epilogue, which I hated and wished had been left out of the book, has been almost completely redeemed for me by this, in which there are sewers and dads and a more grown-up kind of happy ever after.

4)I'm going to be incommunicado for the next couple of weeks, as I am off to where there are no computers nearby. Do try not to pine away for lack of me, y'all.

Everyone should go check out the [livejournal.com profile] lonelytartsclub, where they're running a John/Vala ficathon. Pairings other than John/Vala are also welcome in the stories, as well as threesomes or moresomes involving them. They've got some helpful info and pics if you don't know that much about Vala, or want to make art or icons instead. John and Vala together makes my heart expand with the pretty and the cheerful sluttiness, so sign up!

Also, I, uh, wrote a Grey's Anatomy drabble? A Cristina/Meredith Grey's Anatomy drabble? Yeah. So, it's here, if anyone wants to check that out. Spoilers for the Season Three finale though.
