I wanted to rec this dark, excellent story, written by [profile] auburnothenna for the SGA Reverse Bang Challenge. Rodney's in exile, and both the past and the present are bleak. Read it here:

I'm more than ready for summer to show up, already. I got a tease of it while in Paris, sitting in cafes and parks with the sun beaming down and crowds wandering by in shorts and flip-flops. My summer dresses are waiting, but this city's giving us nothing but rain and chilly evenings and the occasional tease of a warm day. Summer isn't even my favorite season, but the winter was too long and now I'm actually looking forward to heat waves and sun burn and wishing for ice cubes to stuff into my clothes because it's too damn hot to care about looking ridiculous.

I think I need to write a story about hot sweaty summer sex and licking ice cream off of each other. That might help. Otherwise, I'll just keep telling myself that the weather's gonna change any day now. Yep. Any day now. *huddles deeper in warm hoodie*

Celebrating Women : Increasing Awareness

Hey, today's the first day for 14 Valentines! If you've never heard of it, here's the quick summary:

"14 Valentines was a concept slash project pioneered by [personal profile] rageprufrock in 2006, and going into its fourth year, based on the idea of fandom as a community composed of women and their allies and the power of the relationships there. It's meant to raise awareness -- and hopefully as a result increase participation in organizations devoted to women's causes."

There will be fic and essays and icons and other cool stuff posted there for the next two weeks! Go check it out!

Here's my story for SGA Santa:

Title: Reflections
Recipient: [personal profile] ladysorka
Pairing: Gen
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: SGA and its characters don't belong to me.
Word Count: 1, 435
Author's Notes: Set during "This Mortal Coil".
Summary: "Being a clone sucks," he said. "That's the one point that most of the narratives make very clear."

I've been so busy lately between adjusting to the new job and work schedule that I haven't had much time to write, but I'm hoping to post some stories to celebrate the New Year. And hey, maybe 2011 will be the year I finally manage to wrap up my WIPs.

sga_santa is posting now, woo! I love the fic that I was given, in which a bored and scheming John gets his team to break him out of quarantine, right over here.

Here are the stories that I wrote for [community profile] sga_kinkmeme. Or at least *cough*, the ones I'll admit to.

Command : Jennifer/Sam, authority figures, PG-13

Tight : John/Rodney, corset, NC-17

Side by Side : John/Teyla, hurt/comfort, R - WARNING: Violence, Attempted Sexual Assault, Sexual Harassment

After : John/Rodney, hurt/comfort, washing, PG-13
Title: Scenes from the 'Verse Next Door
Fandom: Psych
Genre: Gen (mostly, with some mention of canon pairings)
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Up until the end of Season Three
Words: 2884
Summary: The more things change, the more they stay the same. Kinda.
Author's note: This is a Psych AU written for the [community profile] cliche_bingo prompt, 'genderswap'. Most of the dialogue comes from various episodes from seasons 1 and 3.

So I graduated from my library program on Thursday, hurray! I'm glad that I'm done, although it's a little strange that for the first time in about twenty years, I won't be going back to school in September. Right now I'm hovering in a weird limbo where I'm working part-time and looking for a full-time job, but it still feels like just another summer between semesters.

Also, the author reveals for [community profile] sga_genficathon have gone live, and so here's the story that I wrote.

Word Count: 2,570

I was out at a restaurant with my family tonight, and we saw Gordon Pinsent (Canadian actor of Due South and Away from Her fame (I know he's been in many other movies, but that's how I know him)). As his group was leaving the restaurant, they passed by our table and my dad said 'hi', so he stopped and chatted for a few seconds. I was blushing like mad because I am useless around celebrities, even if they're old enough to be my grandfather. I was floating on a cloud of "Fraser's dad!" squee for the next hour. *g*
Title: Reason to Celebrate
Rating: PG
Pairing: John/Rodney/Ronon/Teyla
Prompt: Zombie apocalypse
Word count: 948

Reason to Celebrate )
Hurray for same-sex marriage being made legal in Iowa and Vermont, and with DC trying to get same-sex spouses married in other states recognized in DC! \o/

[livejournal.com profile] azurelunatic wrote a hilarious interpretation of the Iowa Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage over here.

The following is an informal summary of the ruling.

Dude. Even though this state has a large number of bigoted twits who want to keep the gays out of your marriage, it's still fucking unconstitutional, and you can go shove beans up your nose. Let me compare you to people who wanted to keep slavery and segregation around, and keep women from voting.

If you want to discriminate against a group, your ducks has better be very well in a row, and we're going to go right on down and show you where your ducks just ain't.

Also, on a completely unrelated and random note, I recently discovered the First Church of the Intergalactic Fruit Bat Steve, which is possibly even more awesome than Pastafarianism. Except for the stuff about the faux hawks and the high heeled flip flops. Don't judge me.

So, What Would Steve Do? Well, Steve would probably walk forward on his wee little elbows and nom a bit of fruit. But he wouldn’t be a dick about it, that’s for damn sure.
For the Nine Things about Oracles meme:

1. They aren’t always blind. It’s just easier that way.

2. The vase breaks every time. Maybe.

3. Umbrellas are more important than you might think.

4. The trappings, from cards to entrails, are misdirection. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t needed.

5. They will tell you a truth, not the truth. Note the difference.

6. You won’t understand what they tell you. If you think you do, you’re wrong.

7. This is important: people matter more than prophecies. Always.

8. If you ask a question, you have to pay the price. Be generous. It will cost you less in the long run.

9. Feel free to tell destiny to go fuck itself. It might even work.

So the store where I've been working part-time since last summer? Closed down on Tuesday, with no warning to any of the people who were working there. Boo. It's not so bad for me, since I was hoping to get a different job this summer anyway, but I feel awful for my coworkers.

In more important news, for anyone on my flist who wants to know what's the deal with RaceFail09, something that started out as a discussion about racism and cultural appropriation and turned into something much bigger, and much more painful, here are some links that might help:

A timeline of the main events that happened early on in the discussion.

A short summary of the more recent events that have spawned from the original discussion.

A collection of links to everything that's gone down since the beginning. There's a lot of links here, but trust me, they're worth reading through.

I've been following but not participating in this. I'm a white girl with privilege coming out my ears, and I had the luxury to sit back and read, and hopefully learn.

However, to quote [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic here's what you need to know about RaceFail09: These conversations are not wank. This is not petty infighting. This is not trivial. This is important as fucking hell.

A short, silly and porny fic I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon's someecards Friendship/Flirting/Thinking of You fest.

Title: Therapeutic
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: John/Rodney/Ronon/Teyla
Words: 543
Summary: “Freaking out?” Ronon said, shifting closer again and kissing the inside of Teyla’s thigh. “Still?”

Final Happy Thing: McDonald's fries, eaten out of a bag on the subway. Mmmm, salt and grease. I so seldom eat McDonald's food these days that when I do have some, it's a treat instead of just bad food.

So I finally finished the meme. It only took me three months! :D I'm kind of bogged down with assignments right now, and yet that just means more procrastination fic to write!

Also, I've started reading Watchmen, because I always like to have read the book before I see the movie, and the movie looks pretty damn cool. My older-by-a-year cousin lent it to me with his mom looking on.

AUNT: Wow, I would have thought you two were too old for comic books now.
COUSIN AND I: *expressions of disbelief*
ME: Blasphemy!
COUSIN: You're never too old for comic books!
ME: Also, it's a graphic novel!
COUSIN: *points* Yes! It won prizes!
AUNT: *laughs at us*

Two more fics written for [livejournal.com profile] show_goes_on:

Title: Each Coming Night
Pairing: John/Rodney/Ronon/Teyla
Rating: PG-13
Words: 2189
Summary: Written for the prompt: John/Rodney/Ronon/Teyla, cold (warm them up)
A/N: The title is from an Iron and Wine song. And I had Rodney make a Firefly reference.

Each Coming Night

Title: Bittersweet
Pairing: Meredith/Ronon, Genderswitch AU where McKay has always been a woman
Rating: NC-17
Words: 3052
Summary: Written for the prompt, girl!Meredith/Ronon, seize the moment

Today is my kindred spirit [livejournal.com profile] of_evangeline's birthday, so go tell her how fabulous she is! Throw glitter and kittens! :D :D

Happy Birthday, M! See you tomorrow!

Happy Thing for today: [livejournal.com profile] 14valentines is open for business again, and tons of awesome fics, art and recs are being posted to bring awareness to the issue of violence against women. Today's theme is Day 3: Women and Health.

Also, I wrote a fic for the post-SGA fest, [livejournal.com profile] show_goes_on.

Title: Expanding Horizons
Pairing: John/Teyla
Rating: NC-17
Words: 515
Summary: Written for the prompt: John/Teyla, pegging porn

Expanding Horizons
Hee, this meme is going to take me forever to finish. That's what I get for being a ridiculously sporadic poster, I guess.

Happy Thing: I went out with E and M to watch M's brother's friends' band. They were playing in a beer tent stuck between storefronts, next to an empty NDP campaign office. It's the last night of January, -17C outside, and I had an awesome time. Free hot chocolate, free hot dogs, everyone dressed in coats and scarves and tuques and huddled around their beer. There were small children dancing along to the music earlier in the evening, and later we were all dancing, still in our coats, jumping around to 99 Red Balloons and a rock version of Sunday Morning Coming down, and the dancing warmed me right down to my toes. Good times.
Happy Thing: I had delicious leftover samosas, pork, and baked potato wedges today for dinner. A more general happy thing was that my holidays were pretty awesome. How about yours?

Here's the fic I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa:

Title: Like Catching Sunlight in a Jar
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] telesilla
Pairing: John/Rodney/Ronon/Teyla
Rating: NC-17, just to be safe
Summary: Even though John had been in the room at the time, he was still not entirely clear on how Teyla had managed to convince Woolsey to let them go on what was essentially a weekend getaway, to a music festival no less.
Spoilers: Spoilers for everything up to and including Remnants, 5x15.
Author's notes: The title comes from the wonderful song, Sunlight in a Jar, by the Lucksmiths. It served as inspiration for this story. This story is an AU where the team got together sometime between Quarantine and The Kindred.

Like Catching Sunlight in a Jar

( Dec. 20th, 2008 05:41 pm)
Happy Thing:

Heteronormativity, Gender Construction and Nonverbal Signaling in Intercultural Communication: A Comedy. John/Teyla, PG-13.

Another awesome [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa story, quite long, takes place in the Mensaverse, and is utterly hysterical. Dr. John Sheppard doesn't know why Teyla keeps feeding him, and in the course of figuring it out, there are some explosions, some misunderstandings, a Wraith plushie doll, implies threats with a baseball bat, drinking games, and a lot of knitting.

I realize that I'm pretty behind on the times here with this. I don't care, because this video fills me with giddy, giddy glee.
